Tier 2 work permits are a critical component of the UKBA’s points-based managed migration scheme.
Obtaining a Work Permit
Prior to applying, you must meet the following requirements for a work permit:
- Have obtained a confirmed job offer from a licensed employer in the United Kingdom who will act as your sponsor; and
- Possess a Sponsorship Certificate issued by your sponsoring employer; and
- Pass the points-based evaluation
We advise on three primary types of UK work permits. These include the following:
- General – Skilled Worker – Tier 2
- Intra-Company Transfers at Tier 2
- Tier 2 Visa for Sportspersons
The employer is in charge of the work permit application procedure and is responsible for issuing you (the applicant) with a Certificate of Sponsorship.
Work Permits in the United Kingdom (General Category) & Permanent Residency
You may be eligible for permanent residence as a holder of a UK work visa permit if you have lived and worked in the UK for a minimum of five years. After meeting the five-year residency requirement, you may be eligible for Indefinite Leave to Remain in the UK, which can be followed by British Naturalization as a British citizen.
Transfers within the Organization & Permanent Residency
As an ICT work permit holder, you may be eligible for permanent residence if you have lived and worked in the UK for a minimum of five years and were given a Tier 2 intra company transfer visa before to 6th April 2010 or had previous leave as a qualifying work permit holder. After meeting the five-year criteria, you may be eligible for Indefinite Leave to Remain in the United Kingdom (ILR), which can be followed by British Naturalization as a British citizen.
Employment Changes
You must get a new Certificate of Sponsorship from a licensed employer if you intend to change employers. Additionally, you will need to pass a reassessment against the current points test, and the position must meet the resident labor market test’s advertising standards (if applicable).
